Dr. Gregory Carman spoke at the 2nd CE-CISMMS Multifunctional Design Seminar

g_carman2Our invited speaker, Dr. Gregory P. Carman, Distinguished Professor at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, UCLA, presented his talk on November 4th, 2016. Dr. Carman is also the Director of the new National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center, entitled, ‘Translational Applications of Nanoscale Multiferroic Materials (TANMS) and is engineering Director of the Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology in the Department of Surgery at UCLA.

His talk entitled “Magnetics + Mechanics + Nanoscale = Electromagnetic Future“, reviewed the motivation, history, and recent progress in nanoscale strain-mediated multiferroics. He also discussed future research opportunities and the  novel applications this research has. The seminar was well attended by students, WSE faculty members and APL members.
